In order for us to process your claim, we require your original marriage certificate or an approved translation if the document is not in English. There is a standard court fee of £550 to file your petition. If you were married in the UK, we can obtain a copy of your marriage certificate on your behalf. If the marriage took place abroad and you cannot obtain a copy of the marriage certificate, we will need to make an additional application to the court when we file your petition.
Your marriage must be at least a year in length in order to qualify for a divorce. We cannot immediately advise as to how long the process of a divorce will take, as every situation is different, but the process will be substantially longer should you be unable to gain the agreement and signature of your partner.
