UK Ancestry

If you are a Commonwealth citizen and have a grandparent who was born in the UK, you may be able to live and work in the UK on the basis of your UK Ancestry. A UK Ancestry visa can only be obtained from outside the UK. You will also have to show that you are a commonwealth citizen and aged 17 or over.

In addition to satisfying a maintenance and accommodation requirement, you will also need to satisfy the Home Office that you are able to work and intend to take or seek employment or self-employment in the United Kingdom. The earliest you can apply for a UK Ancestry visa is 3 months before you travel. You may be eligible to be settled in the UK after 5 years of residence in the UK.
